"Hello Jerry,
Recently needed a replacement gas cap on my 1971 S2 Europa. The cap from my 1972
TC was too big for the S2. The cap shown on the cross reference, a NAPA/Balkamp
703-1020 looks correct for the TC with a 1-7/8" opening, but not the S2 which
has a 1-1/2" opening.
Searching the assortment of gas caps at my local NAPA dealer, they had item
NAPA/Balkamp 703-1220 which looks the same as the 703-1020, but fits the 1-1/2"
opening. I could not see this item listed on the NAPA web site. Cost was about
$6.39
In summary:
NAPA/Balkamp 703-1020 fits a TC and maybe Special (Lotus item X046L6005Z, dwg
LA10)
NAPA/Balkamp 703-1220 fits S2 and maybe earlier versions (Lotus item 046L6002,
dwg LA7).
A picture of the 703-1220 gas cap is attached.
